How do I evaluate transfer credits from other universities?

It's always best to choose a course in advance that you know will count for a Penn State course you need!

Find a previously approved equivalent course in advance

The Admissions office has a list of courses at other institutions that are already approved as equivalent to certain Penn State courses.

Or you can show your advisor a syllabus from a course you're considering taking, and they can evaluate whether it can be petitioned as a substitute for a Penn State course.

What if I have already taken the course?

Check to see if that course is equivalent to a Penn State course. If not, provide your advisor with a syllabus from that course to evaluate whether it can be petitioned as a substitute.
